Word of Mouth

Welcome to Trailer Trash, highlighting the best, worst and so-so in new movie trailers.

First things first: we never thought we'd want to see a movie whose premise revolves around butter-carving competitions.  But that's exactly what this satirical film is about (along with many other less idiosyncratic themes) and dammit, we kind of want to check it out.  Directed by Jim Field Smith (She's Out Of My League), Butter features Modern Family's Ty Burrell and Jennifer Garner as an ambitious Midwestern couple with an aptitude for carving sculptures out of that yellow dairy product (Burrell, in fact, plays the retired champ).  When the town's annual competition rolls around, Garner's plans to take the winning mantle from her husband look like they might get stymied by a newly-adopted orphan with insane butter-carving skills played by Yara Shahidi.  The cast also features Alicia Silverstone and Rob Corddry as Shahidi's adopted parents and Olivia Wilde as a homewrecking stripper.  Hugh Jackman, Ashley Greene and Kristen Schaal also appear and we definitely caught a cameo by Phyllis from The Office.  Watch the trailer above.

Butter is slated to come out on October 5.
