Phyllis Diller, a fashion and comedy icon, has always been near and dear to our hearts here at PAPER, and she forever cemented herself as one of our favorite feature subjects of all time when she got married to Mr. Mickey for a special Las Vegas-themed edition of Paper in 2003.
In Mickey's article, Diller reveals that she was rocking a punk look from the start, recalling that she wore "spiky hair in strange colors in 1959," long before Cyndi Lauper or anyone else trying to claim that title, and talks about a grade school teacher who humiliated her for wearing an adventurous outfit to school ("And she's dead!," Diller laughs triumphantly.)
Diller wore Ungaro to the ceremony, and changed into a custom Heatherette dress for the ceremony. Her blushing groom wore a Three As Four jumpsuit and the wedding party included designer Isabelle Toldeo, Paige Powell, Peter Davis and "random pedestrians." Photographer Carlos Serrao snapped a few pics of the ecstatic couple before they wet off to their honeymoon -- check out the piece below.
