PAPER
Word of Mouth

Ok, we admit it. It was a tremendous relief entering the St. James Theatre on a scorching-hot New-York-City-in-August afternoon in to be greeted by a blast of air conditioning and ice-cold adult beverages. As we took our seats for the new cheerleader musical Bring It On, based on the movie of the same name, we confirmed with each other that, yes, the movie had been pretty good, and the creative team behind the production had a great track record.

But as hordes of teenagers descended upon the theatre for the matinee performance, our relief was quickly replaced with anxiety and dread. It occurred to us that a Broadway adaptation of a Hollywood movie about cheerleaders may not be the sublime theatrical experience we where searching for and that tweenage girls might make a worse audience than the old fogies who usually haunt matinees. We braced ourselves for what could be the longest two-and-a-half hours of our lives.

In the end did the show continue the Hollywood-to-Broadway-to-closed losing streak, or did we leave the theatre full of team spirit waving our pom-pons for the home team? Watch the video review to find out!
