Word of Mouth
Screen shot 2012-07-02 at 11.34.09 AM.pngUnless you've avoided the Internet for the past year, it's pretty clear that Australia's indie music scene is having a moment (Gotye, Kimbra and Cut Copy are some of the region's biggest players, though technically Kimbra hails from nearby New Zealand).  The latest Aussie export you should look out for is Atlas Genius, a rock trio comprised of the three Jeffery brothers: vocalist/guitarist Keith, bassist Steven and drummer Michael.  After coming together in 2009, the industrious group built a home studio and recorded "Trojans" in 2011, a song that went on to garner raves around the blog world, leading the band to a record deal with Warner Bros. to produce an EP.  The result, Through the Glass, came out last month and features "Back Seat," a dreamy track that we're desperately trying to describe without resorting to the over-used "chillwave" label. Genre aside, we think the pleasantly mellow song is perfect for lazy summer evenings spent among friends.  The accompanying music video, which PAPERMAG is psyched to exclusively premiere today, feels like one big home movie starring genetically-blessed, carefree young people.  There's lots of making out, lots of underwear exposure and lots of wistful glances from pretty chicks.  Watch it below and enjoy.
