Word of Mouth

More and more artists are attempting to elevate music videos to the level of film, creating cinema out of a genre that was once reserved for an artist lip syncing their song and performing some dance moves, and perhaps with "Fjögur píanó," Sigur Rós has upped the ante.  Starring Shia  LaBeouf (in the buff!), the video features the actor and his female counterpart engage in all manner of choreographed ballet moves, sexual violence and body art.  It's worth noting that while most videos feature a loose storyline meant to complement the song, in "Fjögur píanó," the languid track, devoid of lyrics, seems more like a vehicle for the film.

The song comes from the band's recently released LP, Valtari, and the vid was created as part of the "Valtari Mystery Film Experiment," in which the band gave twelve different filmmakers "the same modest budget and asked them to create whatever comes into their head when they listen to songs."  "Fjögur píanó" was directed by Alma Har'el, a Tel Aviv-born filmmaker who has also directed videos for Beirut and Bajofondo, among others.
