David Lynch has had his talented, slightly creepy hand in just about every aspect of culture -- from films to TV to music to hotels to coffee -- so it makes perfect sense that champagne would be next on his list. Though the cult filmmaker admits he saves the bubbly for special occasions and is more of a Vin Rouge Bordeaux man, he recently designed a limited-edition bottle for
Dom Perignon. To celebrate the collaboration, Dom Perignon and Lynch held a progressive-style party (rooms opened up at different times, providing a new experience every hour or so) last week at Milk Studios in Los Angeles. The British duo,
the Kills, comprised of
Jamie Hince and a pink-haired
Alison Mosshart, who happen to be one of Lynch's favorite bands, performed a hard-rocking set for a crowd that included an odd spattering of stars like
Kelly Osbourne (who's dating Alison's brother
Jamie Mosshart),
Shane West,
Fran Drescher,
Rachel Leigh Cook,
Bret Easton Ellis,
Natasha Lyonne and
Zoe Cassavetes. The whole party was very, well, Lynchian. The next day, recovering from our many glasses of champagne, we sat down with Lynch in the penthouse of the Chateau Marmont and asked him a few questions.
Do you like attending Hollywood parties, like last night's? I like a party of two. Honestly, I really like to stay home and work, but it was a good party.
There are so many great shows on cable now. Does it make you want to go back to TV? I don't watch too much TV. I like
Mad Men and I like
Breaking Bad, but I'm not caught up with that yet. I love continuing stories, so cable is having a real good time these days, but I'm trying to catch ideas for the next film.
So now that you've cornered the spirits market what's an area in which you'd like to get involved with next?
Surgery.
Um, I'm not so sure I'd want you operating on me. Yes you would.
