It feels like summer of '09! With two new Animal Collective songs out today and the debut of Passion Pit's first single from their forthcoming LP, Gossamer, "Take A Walk," both bands have produced some serious indie contenders for Song of Summer (much as they did in 2009 with "My Girls" and "Sleepyhead" from Merriweather Post Pavilion and Manners, respectively).
"Take A Walk" features the glittery, synth-y sound we've come to expect from the band but frontman Michael Angelakos noticeably forgoes singing in his falsetto -- a prominent feature in the group's debut album. Of this and the new album, Angelakos says in a press release, "On Gossamer there is more of a dichotomy between the lyrics and the music. You hear my lyrics more precisely which is something I was ready for. The lyrics on this album have a lot to say about what the last two years of my life have been troubled with."
Gossamer comes out via Columbia Records on July 24th and you can catch the band on tour throughout the summer (check out their dates HERE). In the meantime, listen to "Take A Walk" above.
