Do NOT leave town this weekend!  You don't want to miss the 2012 Blip Festival, do you?  It's the sixth edition of the three-day celebration of all things chip music, featuring everything from hack-your-Gameboy seminars to performances by artists you've never heard of -- all produced by 8bitpeoples along with The Tank and Live Nation. They'll be taking over the Gramercy Theatre (127 East 23rd Street) from May 25 to 27 and all the details are here. This year there's over 30 performers including several that eschew capital letters -- enso, minusbaby, shitbird -- and others with no space-bars on their laptops: Nullsleep, Pulselooper and Wizwars. We love to make fun of this annual event, but remember that today's shitbird is tomorrow's Daft Punk. "No soldering or electronics experience required."
