Ground-breaking Malian photographer, Malick Sidibé, brings his work to the agnès b. Galerie Boutique this spring in a new exhibit entitled, aptly enough, "The Great Malick Sidibé Solo Show!" The collection will center on Sidibé's work documenting Bamako's street and nightlife scenes during the 1960s and 70s, including the famous photo "Nuit de Noel" (Happy Club) Bamako, 1963 (above). The show opens this Saturday, April 14th and runs through June 3.
Sidibé, whose work is in the permanent collections of MoMA and the Met, has been a leading figure in the Malian art community since before his country's independence from France in 1960. Fashion has always been integral to his work and, in our July 1999 issue, PAPER even met Sidibé on the beaches of Bamako for a swimsuit photo shoot with some of the cutest kids in town.
