Ashley Judd at United Nations
In All That Is Bitter & Sweet, actress Ashley Judd, daughter of Naomi and sister of Wynonna, recounts a painful childhood that included sexual abuse from a family member, and says she was often left alone as her mother and sister traveled the world performing as country duo the Judds. Ashley, who has a masters from Harvard and is a humanitarian and AIDS advocate, discusses the book today at the United Nations.

New Build at Mercury LoungeAl Doyle and Felix Martin of Hot Chip have a new band called New Build. Al Doyle also played with the now-retired LCD Soundsystem. Why the band didn't therefore choose "Chip System" as their name is a mystery of the indie rock ages. That aside, New Build's poppy, Peter Gabriel-esque sound is super fun and will sound great when they play tonight at Mercury Lounge with Professor Genius in support of their new album, Yesterday Was Lived and Lost.
Mercury Lounge, 217 East Houston St., (212) 260-4700. 9:30 p.m. $15.
