Making our way into Narciso Rodriguez's Fall/Winter 2012 show last night, we could feel Lincoln Center buzzing as the sounds of Gloria Estefan blasted through the speakers. It was exactly the right mood: Estefan's songs gave all of the fashionistas in attendance a much-needed second wind at a show that fell during the latter half of a crazy week. We spied Claire Danes, a huge fan of the designer's ("Narciso made my wedding dress"), making her way to her front row seat in a black, form-fitting Narciso Rodriguez dress that would make Hugh Dancy the envy of any man. The actress told PAPERMAG that, like a groom waiting for the altar to see his bride in her gown, she didn't want an advanced look at the collection. When the designer's PR team "brought me backstage initially, I was like, 'No, no, no, I don't want to see [the clothes]! I want to save them for the show!'"Moving through the crowd -- we couldn't help but shimmy a little to Estefan's music- - we saw the chanteuse herself: Gloria! Estefan came with her husband Emilio ("We love Narciso so what better place to be [on Valentine's Day]?") and gushed about her friendship with the designer. "I really gravitate towards Narciso. He's got very clean lines, is very graphic and he loves black, which I love!" she told us.
We asked the singer whether she had seen the Grammys over the weekend and what her thoughts were on the new crop of female singers. "You see someone like Adele, a singer/songwriter, who has a really solid voice. We saw Jennifer Hudson [at the Grammys] who has a privileged voice. I think she was the best choice for the Whitney Houston tribute because her voice is very much on par with Whitney. You see people like Nicki Minaj really turning it on and doing crazy stuff. I think Gaga is great. I love watching new talent coming," Estefan said.
And what about the gal of the moment, Lana Del Rey? "If you push the envelope, well that's the job of youth. You have to get out there and do what you think is right."
