Out this week on Blu-ray and DVD is the furiously paced, supremely suspenseful French thriller Point Blank (Magnolia). Skillfully directed by Fred Cavaye, this film plays like an Alfred Hitchcock wet dream. Samuel (Gilles Lellouche) is a night shift hospital aide, in training to be a nurse, with a very pregnant wife (Elena Anaya) at home. When he thwarts someone trying to cut the breathing tube of an unidentified thief (Raschdy Zern), he sets into motion a terrifying chain of events that includes his wife being kidnapped. He is also forced to somehow get the patient out of the hospital. What follows is a high-adrenaline chase across the city as he dodges wily killers and crooked cops and searches desperately of his wife. See it before it's remade in America with Matt Damon.
