Out now on Warner Archive's DVD-on-demand line is loony confection Fashions Of 1934, starring William Powell as a dashing con man who steals the designs of New York fashion houses. (Powell is aided by a lovesick artist, played by Bette Davis, who is hopelessly miscast). With the law breathing down his neck, he heads for France. saying, "I've always been told when good Americans die they don't go to heaven, they go to Paris." Roping in a phony countess, he puts on a big review to show off the wonders of ostrich feathers. Visionary choreographer Busby Berkeley provides the outrageously surreal number "Spin A Little Web Of Dreams", awash with ladies wearing little but ostrich plumes, and harps made out of beautiful girls.
