About Last Night
maryalice-s.jpgBetween dressing some of the biggest names in Hollywood, styling best-selling magazines, consulting designers and beauty brands, and raising a son, it's safe to say that Mary Alice Stephenson is pretty damn busy. Last night the amazonian beauty offered her services to Donna Karan, where she rounded out New York Fashion Week playing hostess at the designer's American Express-sponsored resort show featuring a performance by Lykke Li. We got the lowdown on her favorites from this season and how she balances everything she does while always looking chic.

First off, we love what you're wearing tonight. Could you tell us a little more about your look?

DKNY, of course! I'm such a huge fan of everything that DKNY does. It's young, it's cool, it's sexy with an edge, and I think that's basically the vibe of all the shows for Spring. Whether it was DKNY or Prabal Gurung or Alexander McQueen or Joseph Altuzarra, there was this kind of feminine glamour with a twist.

What were your favorite collections this season?

I loved, loved, loved Prabal Gurung. I always am a big fan of what Alexander Wang does, because not only is it cool to look at it in the show, but girls just want to live in it. You wanna take it right off the models and put it on right now! Rodarte was super feminine and really glamorous. I loved Donna's collection show, it was so ladylike and at the same time there was a very sensual vibe to the show. And I loved L'Wren Scott. It was a lunch and I was seated between Mick Jagger and Daphne Guinness. What more could a girl ask for?!

And how about favorite parties?

Honey, I would love to say that I went to parties, but between styling shows, the media around shows, going to the White House for lunch with the first lady, and taking my five and a half year old to her first week of kindergarten, mama doesn't go to parties. Mama goes to bed!

What was it like meeting Michelle Obama?

Amazing. She's incredible, I've worked with her before, and she's just so inspiring. She loves fashion. She was wearing this Derek Lam dress that I know she had worn before, and I love that she actually cut off the sleeves and shortened it. She recycled chic and I thought that was really cool.

Do you have any fashion week rituals?
Tracie Martyn resculpting facials. A lot of actresses go before premieres or the Academy Awards, and you go in in the morning and you look terrible and you come out looking much better. Also, Swedish Fish. I'm obsessed.

What's on your fashion week playlist?

Anything that Mia Moretti plays. I saw her at Alber Elbaz's fiftieth birthday, and now she's got so many shows. I just love her energy, and there's an edge to everything she plays.
