Art Basel Miami 2011: Things To Look Out For, Part I

We've already booked our hotel and plane resys for Art Basel Miami, December 1 to 4, in South Beach and we're looking forward to this year's tenth edition of the annual fun (and art) fest. There are a couple of changes this year. For the first time, the Art Video program will be using the outdoor projection wall (pictured above) in SoundScape Park designed by Dutch landscape architects West 8, adjacent to Frank Gehry's New World Center. Additional videos will be shown in five "viewing pods" inside the Miami Beach Convention Center. Also new this year is a collab with the Bass Museum of Art (2100 Collins Avenue, South Beach) that will bring art and performances to Collins Park between 21st and 22nd Streets. This unique outdoor exhibition space will be curated by Christine Y. Kim from LACMA and LAND in Los Angeles. We also hear that MoCA in North Miami will be showing over 30 sculptural works by Mark Handforth in a show called "Rolling Stop."  Handforth was the first Miami-based artist to be exhibited at that museum in 1996.  The Wolfsonian (1001 Washington Avenue, South Beach) is planning an exhibit called "Liberty, Equality and Fraternity" to showcase modern furniture, design and craft from France; and over at Vizcaya (3251 South Miami Avenue, Coconut Grove) there's a video installation by Naomi Fisher.  The only music-related event that we've heard about so far is an appearance by Neon Indian at Bardot (3456 North Miami Avenue, Miami) on December 1.
