Karl Lagerfeld Chats With Us At Milan Fashion Week: "We Have to Think About What People Wear in Their Real Lives."
By PIERGUIDO GRASSANO
Photographer Pierguido Grassano has been shooting fabulous Milan Fashion Week street style photos for PAPERMAG this week and recently got the chance to hang out with Karl Lagerfeld. Here, the two have a quick chat about the changing fashion world and Lagerfeld's German roots. How do you think the fashion world is changing?
Today everything is changing so fast, so even the fashion world has to do it. It can't be just red carpet and VIP anymore -- it must include the real people. That's why I've done collaborations with H&M and Hogan in the past. We have to think about what people wear in their real lives.
So is even the same concept of elegance changing?
Sure. Elegance is change.
What will your life be like after fashion week dies down?
I love to be busy doing books, shows and photos. I love to experiment. I don't see it as a job, it's my lifestyle, how I like to live.
You're from Germany, but your work requires you to have a half-French, half-Italian soul. Do you still feel connected to Germany?
I loved Germany, but the Germany that I loved doesn't exist anymore. it's just a memory now. I feel like a stranger in Germany.
