This year at Fashion's Night Out there are ample opportunities to flaunt your special talents in front of designer-turned-judges. Alexander Wang is hosting a talent show and Tracy Reese is judging a dance-a-thon. But if your talents lie less in the performance arts and more in personal style, head down to Derek Lam's SoHo boutique for an open casting call and mini photo shoot. The designer, who recently launched a diffusion line called 10 Crosby Derek Lam, is in search of the next "Crosby Girl." This girl is someone whose style perfectly embodies "downtown cool." Like, "I just rolled out of bed with my perfectly-tousled curly hair, bright red lipstick and I am wearing some ugly high-waisted pants but they look hot on me." At the call, Lam will be joined by model of the moment Hanne Gaby Odiele, who starred in the line's lookbook, and casting agent James Scully. Participants will play model and pose alongside the super sleek Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe, and Lam and Scully will choose a winner.
The lucky lady and a friend will attend Derek's runway show this week decked out in a look from the 10 Crosby line. The entire experience will be filmed and become part of the display, "Let Me C Your Style," to be shown in the lobby of the Lincoln Center tents for all of the fashion industry to see. Sounds like a pretty good deal.
