About Last Night
Bay-Area bubblegum-punk act Hunx and His Punx and psychedelic garage-rockers K-Holes  teamed up for a mini-tour of the east coast recently, including a stop at Mercury Lounge last Saturday night. Hunx and His Punx unveiled an exciting lineup with two new guitarists -- frontman Seth Bogarts's multi-talented beau Daniel Pitout, who, during the set, belted out a surprise Broadway-worthy verse to gaping mouths (he's also a drummer in Canadian punk band Nu Sensae and directed a Hunx tour doc), and Kyle Thomas, a scene-famous dude (who you might know as King Tuff) and is also in Sub Pop band Happy Birthday. (Me: "How is touring with your boyfriend?" Seth: "Great, 'cause we get to do it a lot.")  Even more exciting was the band's new look -- black spandex leotards adorned with pop-art sequined smiles. One of the most entertaining things about seeing Hunx, aside from their catchy 60s girl-group style hooks and hilarious onstage banter, is their endless array of costumes. K-Holes, a Williamsburg mainstay whose sets (and styling) are also always solid, were a formidable addition to the evening. Several others stopped by for a visit backstage, including Cassie Ramone of the Vivian Girls, Coomers of the band Harlem, and celebrated jewelry designer Pamela Love.
