PAPER
on the front lines of cultural chaos since 1984.
PAPER's West Coast market editor was recently in Amsterdam. While some tourists might partake in all of the legal fun that the country has to offer, Everette spent the whole time shopping and accosting cute Amsterdammers about their style.

Who: Estrella Waleson

Profession: Saleswoman at Timemachine vintage store.

Where did you get your outfit?
I'm wearing a skirt from a vintage shop called The Zipper in Amsterdam. My top is from The Monkey, a new store that just opened here out of Sweden. My nameplate-necklace was a gift from my mom. She gave it to me when I was 8 and I never took it off. The rest of the jewelry is vintage. The ringboots are from Timemachine.

Where is your favorite place to eat in Amsterdam? Soepenzo, you can get very healthy soup with only biological ingredients for a small price. Really yummy!

I'm not from these parts, where should I go to get a drink? My favorite bar this moment, or just a nice place to hang out, is a place I just discovered called Hanneke's Boom. It's located next to Central Station on the water, with lounge couches and chairs everywhere. They also serve amazing vegan food. A lot of young and artistic people go there.

Tell me about your music selection. My favorite all-time song is 'California Dreaming' covered by Bobby Womack. The last song I downloaded was "Maniac" by Michael Sembello. I did this right after seeing the movie Flashdance, of course.

What's your favorite thing to do in Amsterdam? Amsterdam, overall, is absolutely beautiful. One of the things I love doing the most is walking around the canals at night and looking at all the lights glistening against the water. It's the most relaxing and peaceful thing for me. I am absolutely in love with this city.
