I have been championing Threeasfour -- the amazing and radical fashion design trio comprised of Adi Gil, Gabi Asfour, and Ange Donhauser -- for years now. And their upcoming Fashion Week show, inspired by the Middle East, sounds like one for the record books. Here, I e-chat with them about their Fashion Week preparations, which surprisingly enough, involve headstands. Of course, as usual, they answer with one voice -- much the same way as they design! Kim Hastreiter: Are you sad or happy that summer's over?
Threesafour: Not sad, but not happy it's over.
KH: Why? Did you do anything super-fun?
TAF: We participated in a super interesting show in Holland: Arnhem Fashion Biennale, and then escaped to the desert of Sinai with our lovely Bedouin friends.
KH: Were you inspired by anything in particular this past summer that we might see in some future collection?
TAF: 1. Crop circles; 2. The Middle East; 3. The nature of unpredictability and the unpredictability of nature.
KH: Tell us a bit about your upcoming show/collection/aesthetic/inspiration? Any hints or clues? Themes?
TAF: "inSHALLOm" is a collection, a project we have been wanting to do for years. It goes to our true essence and origins. So for SS 2012 we are developing a super-special collection revealing the ties between Jewish and Arab aesthetics to demonstrate how the visual world binds these cultures to one another. We are super looking forward to share our new collection with the rest of the world, especially during these times of upheaval and revolt in so many countries all over the world
KH: How do you keep from stressing out at this insane time of the year?
TAF: To get relief from this insane and unnecessary stress we pay extra close attention to our dreams and find the true reality that makes sense. Also, relaxing with some headstands.
KH: Do you feel optimistic or pessimistic in these slightly Armageddon-ish times?
TAF: Optimistic! It is super-important for us to stay thankful and appreciative of what we have today. What happens now is eternal. Tomorrow is another day.
