Taryn Manning on Acting: "I Want to Choose the Role That Is Going to Win Me My Oscar"
By J. Everette Perry
Taryn Manning, the raspy-voiced actress known primarily for her memorable roles in Hustle & Flow, 8 Mile and Crossroads, is a veritable jack of all the trades. In addition to acting, the petite blonde also sings (check out her new-ish track "Turn It Up"), DJs, designs a clothing line... and dropped trou for the April issue of Playboy. Here, she talks tats, Britney and Oscar aspirations...
So who would you like to do a duet with?
Justin Timberlake
How many tattoos do you have? Which is your favorite?
I have five tattoos, but my favorite is my unicorn on my left arm because she keeps me energized and free and keeps me believing in the wanderlust.
What's your favorite tattoo memory?
The day that Britney and I left the set of Crossroads together with Big Rob and we headed to the tattoo parlor so she could replicate my Chinese symbol I had on my hip.
You shared a lot of screen time with Ms. Spears. Any other fun memories on set with her?
This one day on set, I will never forget it, our fellow co-star ate something that had an insane amount of garlic in it just before he had his big romantic scene with Britney. She was horrified and went directly to craft-services to down an entire can of tuna and saved it for him for their kissing scene. Payback's a bitch.
What are some upcoming roles you have in the pipeline?
Bonnie and Clyde and Manson Girls -- and my dream role, to portray Blondie.
I know you're figuring out which "Manson Girl" you wanna play. Who are you leaning towards?
I can either play the role that Taryn Manning would get usually get or I can play a roll that is less conventional, but I want to choose the role that is going to win me my Oscar -- the role that is going to be gritty and push me the most, and I haven't decided which one that is yet.
Do you have a favorite leading man you've worked with?
Call him a leading man or not, Eminem was the most professional, interesting and creative artist I've worked opposite of on set and was always a huge supporter of my music and early Boomkat material.
Which project do you look back on and wish it had never ended?
I would have to say the one film experience I wish wasn't over was 8 Mile, so that I could revisit the my laughter and great moments with my dear friend Britney Murphey.

Blondie is not a person. Unless Taryn meant that she actually plans to portray the entire band, like in an episode of The Tracey Ullman show.

Taryn has an amazing energy, she lights up a room and makes everyone feel warm and happy. I'd love to hear her DJ

She looks amazing in these photos! And the fact that she shared a funny Britney experience and still remembers Britney Murphey is the best part.
** Cant 't wait for more new music from her! I'm already in love with "Turn It Up"

the styling is superb, great job by the stylist, jo castellanos! -- especially loving the aqua number. [side note, isn't BM's name spelled brittany murphy?]
