Hayley Williams' Tour Diary Part 1: A New Paramore and a Return to the Warped Tour

Paramore was in the news a lot late last year due to the very-publicized departure of two members. The band, however, is back with a new lineup, playing shows, and, from the sounds of this tour diary from front woman Hayley Williams, feeling stronger than ever. Even better, Hayley will be blogging for PAPERMAG over the next few weeks as the band tours around the world. Take it away, Hayley! PAPER magazine. Am I really writing blogs for you guys? I'm nervous. Here goes.
Well, this year we've only played like a month's worth of shows which is just a feeling of vomit in the bottom of my throat. I'm not used to being in one place for more than a day or two. Don't get me wrong, I've had a GREAT time washing dishes and staying at my mom's when everyone is well aware that I've got my own place... I just don't feel at home when I'm at home.
The six shows we played on the Warped Tour this summer were happily welcome by my near insanity and healthier-than-usual vocal cords. It was to be my summer mini-vacation; like Gulf Shores for the weekend with my family when I was a little girl. The only reason I can say this about Warped now, is because six years ago when we first took on the Warped Tour, we traveled in a 12-passenger van, set up our tent at 7 a.m., wrote out flyers and only ate PB&J's. It was hard, sweaty work and it always paid off when more than a handful of people would come to watch us play in the folded out side of a pink box-truck. Fast forward to now and we've become regulars on the tour... we even get to eat at catering.
The best part of this summer's stint on the tour, however, was not the luxuries that came with knowing the ins and outs. It was actually just the opposite. Since 2005, we've been working our way up. Always trying to best ourselves. It's all good and well in theory but becomes such a massive weight. After a while you wonder what it was like to meet up at the end of the day for band practice in a room with just each other. How happy did my stupid face look when it was only us and the PA system I borrowed from a guy at my church? What did all that feel like? I think that for bands who strive for longevity, you have got to be able to find that feeling. Not in a nostalgic sort of way but in a way that's real and present.
If you know anything at all about Paramore you probably know that we lost a couple members recently and you might've even thought we broke up. Before any of that even happened, I had long given up my Goonies illusion of us sticking it out together, adventuring, and playing our songs for the world. Losing members of the band was the hardest thing that we've ever been through as individuals, let alone as a "business." It felt like blacking out. (I gave blood two weeks ago and fainted -- so the feeling's fresh on my mind.) All these images were pouring in and out of my head yet I couldn't remember any of it. It felt like walls closing in. I didn't know how we were going to be if we kept going.
Fast forward to now and, having spent less than a week on our favorite summer tour, I can't believe I didn't have more faith. In myself, even! If we were to end the band now, I can say that I was able to spend our last few shows looking into faces of people who have been front row since the first time we played their town. And every time I turned around to look at the guys, they were happier than I've seen them since the start of all of this.) We're not ending it all now, though, so this is all sort of beside the point.) More than anything, I'm so glad that we decided to go back to Warped because it's where we really became who we are. A tour where we weren't necessarily the headliners, we didn't have as many "perks" as we might have playing our own shows, and absolutely nothing was in our control out there. I remembered what it was like to sit in a room for eight hours with the guys, playing our songs over and over because there was nothing else in the world that could be better. Six shows took me back about eight years in the best way possible.
In two days, we're headed to Hong Kong, China to kick off a short run in the Pacific Rim. It's gonna be the shortest tour you've ever heard of. Don't worry, all my blog entries won't be this long or this rambly. Thanks for reading, anyway.

I'm Vanessa i'm the lead singer of a band call haunted we are 3 people right now i'm the only girl (the guys are in love with you) we are very new in all this amm but at least me i have been in a lot of bands,it's just like if you plain something it will never work but if just happen it's great idk if u understand me anyway i have been in a lot of bands but it never works.... in this case we meet at high school (we are in high school) and i though i was the only girl in high school who loves pop punk and alternative music and i though i was the only who likes Jimmy eat world or a the used but no! we are 3 people who casually meet and we like the same things and the same bands and no one of us could imagine ourselves doing something else that been in a stage i feel like this is important 4 my life and a very big thing and the fact of make a band was a very spontaneous thing and it's really working.I was reading the bio' of paramore the other day and i saw that you guys stared in a very similar way like us and i was wondering how you make it work i mean like having so success. my life will be ruined if i end in a office working 14 hours at day, working for some ass-hole that doesn't do anything but see my boobs i will be lost and i probably could say that all what i do in my life was a waste because i never do what really passion me so if you have any advise it would be amazing. We don't care about the spotlight we just want to share our music and do what we really love.

God this made me tear up! I met you guys in Milwaukee at Warped this year and it was honestly the most amazing, perfect, beautiful moment in my entire life.You guys all signed Jeremy's old tank that I now own and you were all the sweetest. I've been a Paramore fan for about 4 or 5 years but this is the first time I have ever been to Warped and you guys made it so special for me. 3rd summer in a row I have seen you live! I am so thankful you guys stuck it out and you are really better than ever. You're the reason I picked up guitar again and wanted to be a singer song writer. You all are a true inspiration. Paramore is (still) a band!

As dorky as this sounds, you're a awesome role model. As a girl who is about to head off to college, you are a great reminder of what hard work and perseverance can bring if you don't give up when the going gets tough. Loved the blog, I felt good reading this, I am a very special fans. I love everything about Paramore, well, well, I did not care to read this, I would read more if possible. I loved seeing you in my country: Argentina. I, estubo so crazy, it was fun. Even with the kids. And if I cried a lot, but worth it. All for the band.

Hey Paramore! You guys really have done an amazing job when it comes to expressing your music! My question to you would be, what inspires your music the most? I understand that things through life inspire great music, but I'm trying to write a song for my boyfriend, and I completely suck at poetry. In the 7th grade, while I was learning how to write poetry, I got an F because of how bad it was.

I've always loved paramore. I love all your old songs, and listening to them as a doze into a dream. I love your new songs that go into my head, and come out as words of mine. Heck, I just love everything about you guys. I wish you never break up, I want to keep your songs in my head.

I'm glad you guys are happy, and I wish for more happiness and success for you guys. Paramore is my favorite band, and not just because of the music. You guys always seem so...down to earth. Like the fame hasn't really affected you all too much. Its honestly great that you guys are going back to Warped and stuff. :)

Paramore is such an inspiration too me. I look qt Hayley and she is who I strive to be like. Not in the physical sense but in a phycological sense. She is strong minded, confident, funny and has this biggest heart ever!
I'm a musician myself. Paramore is part of the reason I became one. They showed me the pure passion and joy of making music! I hope one day I get to meet them!

Hayley, I know I speak for all your fans when I say what an inspiration you are. I try to always make it to your shows but I live near Memphis so I was only able to catch the Mud Island show back in the Riot days and luckily around my birthday I was able to go to the show in Nashville last year. Keep doing what you are doing, you enrich people's lives. I know you do mine. I love waking up and listening to paramore. It always makes me feel better. Also I have to say if anyone else saw you guys on the honda civic tour, I loved the opening with Ignorance. Amazing. I loved it even though I was only able to get seats in the back haha.(Believe me if I wasn't a college student, and all my money went to school I'd spend all if it towards shows, merch, anything I can to support you guys) I'm determined to get front row seats to one of your shows. Hopefully I can meet you one day we can meet. I'd most likely look stupid from being so excited, but you get the point haha. You guys should do a meet and greet! I'd save up all the money I can just to meet you. I also went to warped this year I tried so hard to get to a show where you guys were playing but there weren't any in the south where you were playing. Just about broke my heart I couldn't get to see you guys blah at Warped. BUT regardless I love you guys! I wish I could meet you, but I know you guys get a million of those plus the "I'm your biggest fan" But I just really want to say thanks Hayley, and to all the guys. Even though we haven't met, I feel like we have been friends for awhile. I grew up with you guys, keep playing music. It's really an amazing thing you guys are doing.

Hi Hayley,
I'm Veronica, I live in Milan, in Italy, and I follow you guys from 2008, when I saw Misery Business on MTV. And, well, I fell in love with your music. I really got inspired by you (I'm the singer and songwriter of my band, Darklight Sun), by your style, by your energy on the stage.
When I heard about Josh and Zac I was petrified. I couldn't believe that it was happening. And then, I heard all the things Josh said and I got disgusted. But not by you, Hayley, of course, but by him. I couldn't believe in what he said. In fact, I didn't.
You know, I can understand a little what you felt. Two members of my band, the bassist and the guitarist, who are brothers, left my band some months ago, right when Josh and Zac went away. I felt destroyed. Really. I didn't know what to do with my band, I didn't have the strengh to stand up once again and start it all again.
But I did, I realized that if they were gone, it was their matter, and I had to go on because music is so important for me. Of course, everything you felt was bigger than what I felt, but, anyway, you have my comprehension.
When I heard In The Mourning and Monster I was so proud of you! Paramore DID come back! Or, better, Paramore didn't go anywhere, you never went away!
Anyway, thanks for all the emotions! You guys are great!
I'm looking forward to see you live in Italy (I hope so hard you'll come to play in Milan!)

Been a huge fan of you guys since 08 and will never stop be a parawhore, just sayin'. I support you guys with all of my heart. It must have been a hard time to loose band members when you share the same passion for music as them but also when you've all are friends. Thanks for remain as Paramore, the awesome and great band that I've always looked up to.
Also I love the song Monster very much, so strong and it showed that Paramore isn't going anywhere, can't wait for your next album!

I remember my first show seeing you guys. April 2006, Boston at the Avalon. I had met you all **except Taylor :(, but I met Hunter** You were all so young, and so was I. Me being 21, I feel like I have grown up with all of you. Your music keeps me going, your all funny as hell, and everything you do isn't to be in magazines and on the news, you all just do you and you're positive role models to many individuals around the world. (including myself)
You all are definitely THE most inspirational band of our time.

Aw this is soo great to hear how you and Taylor and Jerm are doing on tour. when I read the part on Josh and Zac's departure, I started to tear up. Maybe because I wasn't quite over the fact that they were gone, but when I read the rest of the entry, about how happier you guys have been since it happened, and then In The Mourning and Monster came out, and I started to feel hopeful, even more than I ever did! and now I know that you three will be ok, better than ok, because you have the love and support of your family and friends.

I'm a big fan of you - Paramore - and I wanted to tell people that I'm proud that you're not playing music for money. That's what I've always been thinking about, I mean, we can see that you love your music more than you love playing in a very big stadium - for business, of course. I've been a fan of Paramore since 2005 and I must say reading this really made me smile. Even though im a bit younger than you all, it's still funny to watch you guys grow up and, even though it probably doesnt matter much, I'm really proud of how far you guys have come. Love to hear about ALL of it! I have two daughters, Haley(8)and Madeline(7), and they absolutely LOVE all of your music! I met my husband through bands we played with in Charleston, SC and ended up being his lead singer for about 4yrs! My girls love you Hayley and they sing every single note right along with you on all of the albums!! Right now their favorite is Brand New Eyes and that is all we listen to in the car...thank you for inspiring lyrics that even they can relate to! I love your passion for what you do, and quite frankly I just love your music. You all are wonderful people who have been through a lot, but still hold out strong. Your music and band give me something I have never had in my life, Strength from others. My journal entries are the exact same way: Rambly. But you know it helps to just get your feeling out onto a piece of paper. So keep writing these! I enjoyed reading it.
And about the whole losing two band members thing, well I saw the band last year in the spring in Moline, IL. And after I saw that concert, I was like even more crazy about you! Broke my mothers heart. But whatever. And after I heard about you guys losing two band members, I stopped listening to Paramore. I'm not exactly sure why but I just did. And only till just a few months ago I started listening to you guys again and stuck with ya. Honestly I felt really bad for you about what the band members who left said about you. This is really inspirational in a way. Life is full of "ups" and "downs" and the band doesn't shy away from their feelings when they are feeling down and depressed. They tell us that there is always something to look up to when your feeling the worst and they rose up after everything that happened to them. Paramore is going to be around for a long time and I am happy to say I can't wait for their next album as a threesome. :)

From a 'Metal' fans point of view Paramore were a band that were there but that i didnt really associate with. However you guys have definatley inspired me in a whole lot of ways since i started listening to you and i just wanted to say thankyou! i really respect what you guys do and the people that you are. You have been an amazing rock band. The first time I heard your songs, you had great drum rhythm and style, best guitar melodies and an awesome voice. It made me want to listen to more of your music.
One of my favorite songs is "Miracle." I have been waiting for a miracle, and that miracle is to meet Hayley Williams and all the other members of Paramore. But personal difficulties kept me from meeting you or going to your concerts, so it seems that this miracle may not come true. But there are other miracles I am waiting for and so I am praying that my miracles can come true. Hopefully, your miracles will come true as well.
I understand how difficult it is to work together and make sure that you will continue to do your job as a group. But I want you to not give up on each other. Please continue to impress your fans all the way to the end. I am glad that I got to hear your music, and so I'll root for you all until the end.

I went to a warped show pretty much because you guys were there and you were one of the like 2 or 3 bands that i saw and my favorite and i havent been able to listen to much else since then (and that was almost a month ago). You have been an inspiration to me ever since I fell in love with your (Paramore's) music. You guys will always be the top of my favourite bands list.
Even though you've been through rough times and hardships, we've been there to support you and also it's been worth it. I have never met you guys but would love to in the future. Me and my friends have done two covers of your songs The only exception and You ain't woman enough (cover) though we haven't posted them online.
I truly love you guys and like everyone else that has commented we believe in you and are totaly happy for you and Paramore's future. Looking forward to the album or mini album coming out soon.

This year was my 1st time at warped tour and saw paramore live.
I could say without a doubt that it was the happiest moment of my life. (even though I kind of fight with some girl at the crowd and almost die in there cause I REALLY CANNOT STAND BEING AROUND TOO MANY PEOPLE.
It was al worthy, never saw them that happy. Can't say I was since the very begging with them but I swear I'll be till the very end. Propably no one would read this but I just needed to say it.

We all carry on but there is this forgiveness thing also, the one that is at the foot of the cross. You are a smart girl and listening to your maker & the Farrow's are hurting too. I'm so glad to hear you happy. So glad that I can't express while writing this, cause I'm bursting into tears. Well, Paramore has been an addiction I have since I heard about them, in 2005.
It's a long time addiction. But they deserve all of this.
When we had the departure of Zac and Josh, my whole world broke up.
How was I supposed to feel, when my biggest certainty was broken?
My biggest certainty was that they were all best friends, and that they'd never be apart.
And, for one moment, I tought that they couldn't handle the pressure of only the three of them.
But, as always, Paramore surprises me, and show me you can always be more, offer more, than people expect of you.

Just wanted to say that I've been a HUGE fan ever since I heard the very first notes of Emergency blasting through my earphones when I found you guys on purevolume and buzznet. It's been really great watching you guys grow, from The Summer Tic all the way up to now. From Warped Tour to having your own shows. It's really, really great.
It's horrible that I've missed all your shows around where I am, because I always have some school thing going on - either it's a trip or a major exam. So I really hope I'd be able to watch you guys play soon. You've always been an excellent role model and hearing your voice progress and energy onstage has served as such a huge inspiration to me while performing on stage. You've shown that it's okay to be the only girl and still rock out while doing it.

Hayley You Rocked Bali to the core. A year ago, seeing you at the top of the music world, I would have never believed you would be playing in Bali. not for a long long time. But there you were. In the flesh, and i tell you, after reading about the type of person you are from the countless articles written about you, your energy and passion, I never realized it until tonight. You blew us away with the most incredible concert i've seen. You have fans in every corner of the world. even on this little island, where 3000 people were moved and inspired by Paramore. hayley, jeremy and taylor... you guys have changed my life so much that i don't even know if i can thank you enough. i didn't believe in anything, i didn't even believe in God. you changed that, and now i am this great person that try to be nice to everyone, and i am just to grateful. of course, i thank josh and zac to. even though what they did was so disrespectful, and digging up old things about you,
i want to thank them.
they were a huge part of my life, and they still are. sometimes i cry over them, the fact that they're gone.
but then again, it's you. i saw you last summer, with josh&zac. i felt the tension during the talkingbreaks, and it looked like they wasn't "in the band" anymore. then i saw you this summer, and man... you guys were on fire! i have never, ever been so excited, and the fact that you guys just smiled every single time i looked at jeremy, taylor or you hayley, i cried. i screamed, i sung with and i danced more than anything.

I have never been happier to hear that the band has never been happier. You three have a true talent mentally and physically. I mean to bounce back from that downfall last year and to create such powerful and truthful lyrics you 3 are just amazing, undescribable people who have such talent and really speak to me. i an so glad your having the time of your lives because let's face it, it's hard to be in a band.it's fun, and fufilling, and it's a team effort. i am just so proud that you were able to go on. truly paramore. I look up to paramore and all that they have been through. Though no one in my family understands why I'm a loyal fan it's because when I was going through a rough time last summer I discovered paramore. Their music was not only amazing but it helped keep my mind from thinking about what I was going through. Every single song of paramores imspired me to believe it was going to get better. My family doesn't understand my loyalty because they don't understand the depression I was going through so I guess I'm loyal because not only is paramore an amazing band but they pretty much saved me from myself. I don't know what I would do if they broke up and I dont wanna think about it. I love paramore!!! Keep it up u inspire me...

paramore. you are more than a band to me. i can honestly say that there is never a time when one of your songs isn't being played in my head. you guys are a way of life to me. everything you do gives me hope and faith. i was at warped this year in hartford. when the lady at the tent told me there was no meet and greet i started crying my eyes out. she said it looked like my life had just ended. it pretty much did. i walked around from 11-8 with a sign that said i would pay 80 dollars to meet you guys. i would have paid more but i didn't have any more. i got stared at so much. i was crying almost the whole day because i wasn't going to be able to meet you. when you guys were doing your meet and greet i stood at the fence sobbing. let's just say i kinda lost it and the people around me completely noticed. through all that i can easily and honestly say, jeremy hayley and taylor, you guys are my favorite people in the whole entire world. i am known by everyone every where i go for loving paramore. when i saw you guys at the comcast center during the honda civic tour a whole other situation went on haha. i ended up giving taylor a shirt and hayley took it out on stage. that was the best moment of ever haha. i am not saying any of this in a way of complaining. these were some of the best if not the best moments of my life. Jeremy i love you so much!!!! you are so funny so cute and so inspiring. you are one of the most talented and selfless people i know. you could be cocky but you're not. you're just jeremy clayton davis!!!!! I just wanna tell you keep always strong,no matter how ur condition i believe many of your fans around the world, friends and family always support you, loves you and loves Paramore, i'm also really sad to hear farro's brother (josh and zac) not of members Paramore band anymore, it must be so hard for you for losing your best friends in band but its okay i will always love Paramore anyway just be strong coz i really like your voices :).
And I always wish you guys always creating a good songs like your previous albums,( really love your first album "all we know is falling") wish you can play in JAKARTA or BALI INDONESIA again,or maybe YOGYAKARTA or BANDUNG or everywhere it doesn't matter coz we will always waiting for you all guys in INDONESIA.

I can honestly say you are my favorite band and I was really sad to hear members were leaving, and when they left I was so scared you wouldn't stay together. Everyone I know knows I love Paramore. So when MONSTER came out and then the video, seein just the three of you was very reassuring, so happy you guys are sticking it out. God bless and stay real.

Hayley, I just really hope you and the guys are just having the blast of your lives, no matter what tour you're on, or how long the tour lasts. I can say that I do understand alot of what you are feeling from my own past experiences, it gets tough at times but from what I can tell you guys will make it through. Like you had said keep your head up and keep that positive attitude and things always work out. Never forget who you are or where you came from as a person. Awww, Hayles. Bless. Knowing me I'd probably pass out from giving blood too! (unfortunatly, I'm not allowed to give blood as I had a blood transfusion when I was born -- Long story!) I'm glad that Paramore have come out stronger than ever before. I love you guys, you're just such an inspiration, all of you! People would give there lives to meet you guys, including me! You need to come back to the UK again sometime, it's been too long! Nearly a year! We miss you! You're welcome back anytime you like, and maybe you could do a little meet & greet in London! Like anyother Parawhore (not all of the parawhores, but yeah!) I haven't been there since the beginning, but I'll be there until the very end. Parawhores never give up, and of course, once your in the Parafamily, you're in it for life, there is no way of getting out, but personally I wouldn't have it any other way. If any of you are taking a few minutes out of your time to read this, I thank you. I love you guys so much! Tay, you're adorable, literally! I want to marry you! Paramore is by far one of the best bands out there. Thank you for not ending the band just because two members wanted to leave. You remaining three still rock and it shows that you guys work hard to be the band you are today. I have been to two concerts in orlando, florida, and cannot wait for the next one.

I've been a follower of Paramore for three years now, and I love them more than anything. The first song that I had ever heard was CrushCrushCrush, and I fell in love with Hayley's beautiful vocals then and there. The songs tell a story. They guide you. They're my medicine when I'm feeling down. I'll stay a Paramore fan for the rest of my life.
I'm waiting for that moment when I finally meet them, and that'll be my life's climax. To meet Hayley, Jeremy, and Taylor would be the best thing in the world. I think that can happen for me, if I work really hard, and finally buy VIP tickets to a Paramore concert.

I had finally found that the Farro brothers had left, but that Paramore was (still) a band! I hope that Paramore will stay a band forever, because I will forever admire them! Hayley, I just want you to know that, you, Jeremy, Taylor, and even Zac And Josh have inspired me in so many ways. From your unique, mind-boggling vocal skills, to Taylor's superb abilities as a guitarist, Jeremy's killer way to set up a bass line, or the poetic way you guys write lyrics, it all is just as inspiring as anything can possibly be.
Your music is what I listen to when I feel down or even heartbroken. Songs like "Miracle" and "That's What You Get". To some it may confuse as to why I state those songs, but I have my own personal reasons that not many will understand quite well. Hayley's voice inspired me to somehow try an teach myself how to sing till I have money and time to spend on voice lessons. I already started playing guitar, and Taylor is one of my biggest guitar heroes. The way he can set up the sickest guitar riffs to coexist peacefully with each other in a song but in the next make it sound like they're fighting against each other. Your lyrics are what get me trough day to day life, and inspire my own lyrics that I write in my notebook after a test or in study hall or at home. All this is really saying, is thank you for being who you are as a band, and as individuals. I hope to see you guys in concert soon, (I never have, but it's the one thing I've been trying to do since I was eleven years old. And my friends said I didn't have persistence...) so I can sing along, jump around, bang my head, party furing the hard jams and wave a lighter or such during the slow, and ask Hayley to marry me. (yes, you are also my celebrity crush. You're my Justin Bieber, if JB were an attractive young lady with killer vocal cords and the most amazing hair this planet has ever seen.
