We here at PAPERMAG already can't get enough of Sia's rafter-reaching, soul-saving pipes. But when Sia recently nonchalantly tweeted that her current We Are Born tour is also her farewell tour (she's opting for releasing albums sans touring, penning tunes for famous pop stars while living a simple kind of life with her dogs), we wept uncontrollably, then nabbed the most coveted ticket of the summer. Night one of Sia's two sold-out Webster Hall gigs with the marvelous opening act Oh Land was just what we had expected: an indie diva-wailing, goose-bump inducing dance party/boo-hoo fest complete with our talented gals rocking intricate headpieces and zany arts-and-crafts friendly get-ups -- both designed by Christian Siriano. Oh Land played a short but heavenly set, magically twirling around in her white cape as her angelic vocals made bros in their khaki shorts squeal.
And then there was Sia. Sigh. We watched (cried, screamed, tried to belt along, laughed, cried again) as Sia was on stage basically being amazing in front of a colorful quilted backdrop of her name. In short, her cover of Madonna's "Oh Father" is jaw-dropping stunning; "Clap Your Hands" is our favorite summer song even though it was last year's favorite summer song too; and "Breathe Me" will forever remind us of our emo Myspace homepage song. Oh Sia... You're as special as your choice of indescribable fashion ensembles (see pictures). Thanks for making us feel things.
