Drink This: Spiked Cherry Limeade at Mable's Smokehouse

Though the Southwestern fast-food chain Sonic has expanded to the East Coast in recent years, NYC is still despairingly without these fine purveyors of greasy Texas toast grilled cheese sandwiches and milkshakes that make your fillings ache just looking at them. But perhaps most-missed by New York City Sonic fans (or by me, at least), is the chain's staple cherry limeade drink, a tart concoction served over crushed ice and topped with a lime and maraschino cherry. They're refreshing, not too sweet, and even more delicious when the ice melts a little -- the ideal summer beverage. And now you can get them in Williamsburg! Mable's Smoke House, which serves Texas and Oklahoma-style barbeque on North 11th and Berry, make a nearly identical (and alcoholic) rendition of the drink using vodka, lime juice and grenadine. And it's just delicious. I recommend having one (or two. Or three.) with a Frito pie on a hot day. Now get cracking on your spiked ocean water recipe, Mable's, and we'll be set.
