Word of Mouth
spike-jonze-trailer-01-1.pngFollowing its Cannes debut, Mourir auprès de toi -- a short film directed by Spike Jonze and Simon Cahn, and "handmade with love" by artist and designer Olympia Le-Tan -- will have its U.S. theatrical premiere starting today at the IFC Center as part of their ongoing "Short Attention Span Cinema" program.  While book to film adaptations are nothing new, trust Spike Jonze to  "animate" the convention. Inspired by Le-Tan's embroidered adaptations of classic books, together she and Jonze imagined a mini-epic set after dark in Paris's Shakespeare and Co. bookstore. Starring intricately handmade felt incarnations of Dracula's Mina and Macbeth's skeleton, and with a cameo from Rockwell Kent's illustrated Moby Dick, the film, made up of over 3,000 felt parts, and scored by Sam Spiegel, Koool G. Murder, and Soko, is a six-minute stop-motion love story for even the most ADD-addled among you.
