PAPER
Word of Mouth

Back in 2009, musician and performance artist Aska Matsumiya was one of the 25 25-year-olds featured on one of PAPER's five 25th anniversary covers. She once sang and played keys for the LA-based band The Sads, but is now primarily a solo artist (with an EP that came out in March). Her latest venture, about which we are super excited, is a vegan food blog she maintains with friend  and collaborator, Soko, called Our So-Called Vegan Life. Their new site follows Aska and Soko on their adventures seeking out all things vegan (including ice-cream!) from Los Angeles's Cafe Gratitude, all the way to New York's Stogo. In one post, Soko takes us on a late-night excursion through New York for an open vegan restaurant, accompanied by Kate Nash (who is vegan but eats eggs), and Nick Zinner of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs (who is vegan, but occasionally eats fish). Other posts offer simple recipes for dishes like "Happy Caterpillars," for a low-key night at home. But it doesn't matter if you're vegan, vegan-ish, or just a plain old hamburger-eater, this blog is a straight-up delightful read.
