Word of Mouth

Teeny Lieberson, the keyboardist in Brooklyn psych-folk band Here We Go Magic, recently realized that she wanted to play music with her favorite lady-friends. So she gathered her sisters (Lizzie and Katherine) and two best friends (Jane Herships and Maia Ibar) together to form TEEN, and during the dead of winter, created a collection of eerie, fuzzy pop gems. For the track, "Better" (incidentally mastered by Sonic Boom from Spaceman 3), Lieberson enlisted filmmaker Sam Fleischner, he of Wah Do Dem fame, to create a video, which we are delighted to premiere on PAPERMAG. If the video looks a little familiar that's because you've maybe seen it before. Here's what Fleischner had to say about it: "When Teen asked me to make a video I came up with some ideas about a snowball fight in a bright white field, each girl clad in their own bright color.  Then about a week later I was watching Quicksilver with my friends Tony and Lily.  I'm not sure how the film ended up on my Netflix queue, but there it was playing on my grandma's TV in the middle of the night.  The movie is oddly misguided and seemingly confused but we couldn't stop watching it and by the time it was over, we decided that it beheld the 'Better' video. It is really fun to sample images and present them in a new context. And it was a real pleasure to work with Kevin Bacon and Larry Fishbourne.  They were cooperative, charming and down for anything."

Catch TEEN live on Jun. 15th when they play at Glasslands in Brooklyn.
