My latest obsession is New York born and bred artist Gabriel J. Shuldiner. Having graduated from Parsons, worked in the music industry and hosted his own public access TV show in the mid-90s, Shuldiner is now back to his childhood obsession: art. He now makes the most amazingly sinister black jewelry (with some blood red paint thrown in, too). Check out his Fleurs du Mal 2.0 line, a collection that includes earrings, rings, pins, brooches, bracelets and more. Shuldiner has also collaborated with designers Sally LaPointe and Jose Duran for their Fall 2011 collections. When Shuldiner was seven, he started a company called "The Art Mall" in his bedroom which he would cover with his paintings and sketches and sell to anyone who entered his domain. Shuldiner has two paintings in a group show at The Bronx Museum of the Arts this summer and his amazing jewelry is available at Seven, Convent and other cool stores in the city. "I am obsessed with different materials," Shuldiner tells me. "How they work together and how they don't work together. How I make them work together. I tend to be a bit compulsive." All I can say is Shuldiner's creations work for me.
