Out now in a new and improved transfer on DVD and Blu-ray is the fabulous French thriller Diabolique. This 1955 shocker directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot is about a tyrannical headmaster (Paul Meurisse) at a French boy's boarding school. The timid, abused, wife (Vera Clouzot) and the man's wily mistress (Simone Signoret) plot to murder him but things go very, very, wrong. This twisty mystery made Alfred Hitchcock so envious that he made Psycho, and used the authors of the novel the movie was based on (Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac) for a subsequent novel that would become Vertigo. This new digital transfer is perfection, as is the movie itself.
