It's no secret that PAPER is very into both Greta Gerwig and Cynthia Rowley. But did you know that PAPER's basically the reason Greta and Cynthia are now BFFs? Oh, we love a good connection! Before Rowley's fantastic show, we chatted with the indie actress about how her friendship with Cynthia came to be and her affinity for '70s-era style icons. So what brings you to Cynthia?
I met Cynthia Rowley at PAPER's 25th anniversary party; I was on the cover with 25, 25-year-olds two years ago. I'm 27 now. I met her there, I talked to her for a long time but I didn't know who she was, she didn't know who I was. And the next day, we both said, "Who is that lovely lady?" She was looking for me and I was looking for her. She was one of the first people who sent me clothes to wear to stuff. She's just a New York institution.
What shows are you dying to see this week?
I've been struck with the flu that's been going around so I haven't planned on doing a lot of things. But now that I'm getting better, I'd like to see the Proenza Schouler show and the Marc Jacobs show. Those are the two that I think I really want to see.
Do you have any style icons?
I really looked up to the stars of the '70s. The Diane Keatons, they were so cool. The really young Meryl Streep -- that long hair. I just think there was a naturalness and an ease to the way they dressed and how they were that wasn't so manicured. It was just effortless and chic. And I think the person who most embodies that the now is Sofia Coppola.
