Erro designer Anna Larson doesn't think hot pink
is the new black. To her, black has always been just fine as it is. So while other Fall 2011 collections are showing lots of color and busy patterns, Larson showed a presentation at the Bowery Hotel Wednesday night of sexy, punky separates that seem
perfect for rock stars to lounge around the house in when they're feeling goth-casual. (We imagine the line as being perfect for the little sister
of a Rick Owens customer.) PAPERMAG
chatted with the Swedish native about all the important topics of Fashion Week: casual Fridays,
the Swedish royal family and more.
Mr. Mickey: How did you get started in fashion?
Anna Larson: I moved to New York to study at Parsons and I
studied in the AAS program for one year and then started a showroom
representing other designers for a year. I felt like I was on the totally wrong
part of the industry. I felt like I wanted to design so I started this two
years ago.
MM: Fast! You're from Sweden, but this line doesn't
strike me as being typically Swedish.
AL: I was never very Swedish. I guess that's why I left.
MM: There was a Swedish royal wedding last year.
AL: I did not attend. (laughs)
MM: If you could dress the Princess, would you want to give
her a makeover?
AL: No. Not really. (Mr. Mickey, a die-hard royalty-phile, frowns)
MM: Tell me about the collection. I see there are a lot
knits and stretch fabrics.
AL: I love to work with knits, jersey, fur and leather.
The jersey is so good for its fit. It's
very strong. I prefer doing fall lines because then I can use those fabrics.
MM: What if somebody comes to you and says, 'I want to buy something
from the collection but can you do it in canary yellow?' What would you say?
AL: I'm offering green-gray and the blue-gray but I wouldn't
ever go to a bright color. I would turn that request down.
MM: In America we have a horrible thing called "Casual
Fridays." Do you have a casual look?
AL: I barely ever dress up.
MM: Is what you're wearing casual?
AL: This is dressed up for me.
