PAPER's Future Face of Nightlife winner, Becka Diamond, can also add current face of New York Fashion Week to her resume. In case you need proof, Ms. Diamond's been turning heads in her signature goth-princess numbers at all of the hip shows (see: Chris Benz, Pamela Love, Charlotte Ronson, What Goes Around Comes Around, etc.) and spinning at yep, many a hip shin-ding (Rebecca Minkoff, Top Shop, and even opening for Cam'ron at a warehouse party). We caught up with Diamond at the alice+olivia presentation, and she filled us in on her fantastic watercolor-inspired dye job, her "OMG!" moment at Tommy Hilfiger, and why she's wild for Gaga's recently-hatched egg. Is it difficult getting ready for red carpets like today's?
Actually, no. I don't ever change the way I dress for anyone. I just keep doing my thing and try to tweak little things. Right now I'm into sort of into lady-like goth.
Explain today's look.
I'm wearing alice + olivia. Today is Patti Smith. That's how I pulled the look today -- the suede leggings, the white shirt and the blazer. I love buttoning shirts all the way. It's my new thing.
Describe your personal style in five words. Go!
There we go, always my favorite question! I'm like, "Well, today..." I guess Victorian, lady, dark, unique. And... I don't know. Dressing for Alex when I leave the house. In case I see you, I just make sure you approve.
Your hair color. Dying for it. What made you do it?
I'm going to a new stylist at Ion. I see Naomi Knights and she's amazing. I've personally been obsessed with watercolor paintings lately so I wanted to do my hair like that. She basically paints it in. She bleaches it first and then she paints it in with her hands and then washes it out quick. And then we blow dry it and then we do it again, so it kind of looks like it's dripping.
From Katie Gallagher to Prabal Gurung, there's lots of Rainbow Brite-friendly dye jobs this week. Always ahead of the trends, aren't you?
A lot of people are doing it! Matt Kays [fashion publicist/DJ] and I dyed our hair on the same day randomly! And there was a girl with pink hair at Ronson. And Chris Benz. And Katie Gallagher. I mean, we all did it at the same time but I don't think we were copying off of each other, but yeah!
Any other trends this season you're living for?
Oh my God, Tommy was amazing. It was all inspired by Marianne Faithfull. And the soundtrack was a lot of Rolling Stones. The mix of colors was burgundy and navy. It was so hot. Burgundy and navy is such a good combo -- I would have never thought. They had vertical striped tights, furs with tight, leather burgundy pants. I was so into it.
Would you ever consider starting your own clothing line?
It's not in the cards, but I would love to maybe collaborate, you know? I like the music side of things and I always want to be doing that.
What are your current must-DJ tunes?
Swan's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" cover. And right now, Lady Gaga's "Born This Way." I just love her. She's over-the-top, it's crazy. She arrived to the Grammys in an egg. Fucking holler! Break out of that shell! I hate the Gaga haters. She works so hard.
