Word of Mouth
Betty Draper, you've made jodhpurs chic again! At Araks' show they felt as right for today's Brooklyn bicycle riders as they did for 1960s Ossining. Wool twill, slim through the leg, with a slight flair and perfect tailoring. Above those sharp pants and knockout brown Oxford shoes, androgynous Amish-yoked collars, and double-breasted blazers with horn buttons seemed a bit Grandpa-smokes-a-pipe dowdy, but the cut-out lace dresses and tops were more stylish, showing just the right amount of skin. The minimalist palette of deep eggplants, reds, and hunter greens, as well as the pleats and the textural mix and match of leather and chiffon gave the show a sumptuous feel.  The standout look was a navy sheer sleeveless dress with chiffon lining, black cotton crepe high waist panties and a bralette with pleat detailing. This is how lingerie is made wearable. Such attire could be slipped on for a Catskill weekend away or an uptown gallery opening. Who would have thought that Mrs. Draper and Paz de la Heurta could shop from the same line?
