The Pierces, the Alabama-bred, New York-based sister-sister band comprised of Allison and Catherine Pierce, are famous for their hauntingly beautiful folk-pop ballads. We remember how charming they were way back in 2005, when we interviewed them for our annual Beautiful People issue. And they are still charming! To celebrate the release of their Love You More EP (available to purchase here), Alison and Catherine played a series of shows in New York and L.A. Here's the second installment of their tour diary.
We headed off to Los Angeles on a 7 a.m. flight which meant waking up at 4 a.m. to get there in time. The boys in the band decided to pull an all-nighter while us ladies opted for a few hours of sleep. None of us felt so hot when we arrived in L.A. but the 75 degree weather lifted our spirits pretty quickly. We headed directly to In-N-Out Burger for our first meal of the day and marveled about why we willingly live in freezing New York when we could live in a sunny city that offers such culinary delights! We remembered the downside when we were stuck in traffic for an hour to get to our next destination which led to our next question... Is there a perfect city?
We played the Music Box that night opening for the amazing Lissie. Our dressing room came fully stocked with beer, corn chips, fresh salsa, and a life-sized cutout of Daisy Duke. The walls were plastered with redneck bumper stickers declaring age-old wisdom such as, "Beer. Helping Ugly People Have Sex For Hundreds Of Years" and "I Brake For Hooters." Even though we were travel-weary and sleep-deprived we had a great show.
We haven't gotten out to Los Angeles much in the past due to lack of funds so we decided to make up for lost time by playing three shows in four days. The next show was at this really cool place called Bardot. It's a beautiful venue with mirrored dressing rooms and velvet couches. They fed us spicy Thai food and white wine and we were very, very happy. The show was packed and intimate and the new songs went over really well.
Our final show was at The Hotel Cafe, one of the few venues we've played in L.A. before. We were totally out of our minds that night because we had been all over town meeting new people we'll be working with and playing two other private showcases that day but it put us in a fun, loose mood for our last gig and the crowd was once again amazing!
So Los Angeles was a success! The people, food, and weather have us all leaning towards relocation. New York... we will always love you, but it's hard to argue with summer weather in January.
Aaaaaah....now off to London!
