The Pierces, the Alabama-bred, New York-based sister-sister band comprised of Alison and Catherine Pierce, are famous for their hauntingly beautiful folk-pop ballads. We remember how charming they were way back in 2005, when we interviewed them for our annual Beautiful People issue. And they are still charming! To celebrate the release of their Love You More EP (available to purchase here), Alison and Catherine headlined a show here in New York at Mercury Lounge last week, and will be taking on L.A. this week. Here's the first installment of their mini tour diary. We played a show in our hometown, New York City, the other night after more than a one year hiatus! But we haven't been resting on our laurels... we've been busy writing and recording a new record, getting off one label and onto another, and touring in the UK. The show was at the Mercury Lounge which is actually the very first venue we played in NYC almost ten years ago. We were worried that the 17 degree weather and icy sidewalks would keep people away but we were pleasantly surprised with a sold-out and very enthusiastic crowd. Even though we had just finished a 15-date run in England, our stomachs were full of butterflies for this show. For some reason it's scarier to play for a small roomful of friends and family than for a big theater of strangers. Every show is important but this one felt really special for us and with the help of the amazing crowd (and a couple of glasses of wine) our nerves were totally eased and we were able to relax and have a great time! We did new songs for the most part but threw in "Secret," "Sticks & Stones" and "Boring" much to the delight of our Thirteen Tales Of Love & Revenge devotees. Being on stage can be a bit like going on a rollercoaster... One moment you are terrified, the next you are thrilled and it's much better if you relax and enjoy yourself instead of tensing up and resisting. Then at the end you either wanna do it again or you wanna throw up. This show was a good one and we are definitely ready for another... which is a good thing because we are LA-bound with three shows on the horizon!
