PAPER
Word of Mouth

Both Elvis Presley fans and rockabilly scenesters gathered at Willamsburg's Public Assembly Saturday evening for an all-star extravaganza to pay tribute to the King's 76th birthday. Local bands and performers including Sean Kershaw, Laura Rebel Angel and Roy Buzzard sang the King's greatest hits, but headliner Eddie Clendening (star of the Tony award-winning Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet) and his Blue Ribbon Boys stole the show with their nearly three-hour set. The audience was captivated by Clendening's uncanny resemblance to the King, down to his his voice, mannerisms and greasy quiff. To top it off, Presley's favorite fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches were being served and people ate and danced the night away. And what could be better than that?  Long live the King!
