About Last Night
Pardon the obvious pun, but last night's Converse party was an all-star affair. To celebrate the grand opening of the label's first New York City retail shop, celebrities galore flocked to the Soho store for a night of footwear fĂȘte-ing complete with DJs Q-Tip and Albert Hammond Jr. and a special in-store performance by Brooklyn's own Matt & Kim. Guests rocked out to hits from the indie duo's third and newest release Sidewalks while somewhat intimidatingly ripped bartenders served up some some the city's finest Belvedere blends. Among the fashionable and fabulous were designers John Varvatos, Henry Holland, and Ricky and Dee Jackson, musicians Lupe Fiasco, Theophilus London, and Jim Jones, and even athletes CJ Spiller and Julius "Dr. J" Erving. Though Jones and Erving are the current faces of Converse's "Join the Procession" ad campaign, we'd have to say the most precious punim we saw last night was that of Academy-Award nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe. Kudos to Converse for throwing down hard; if this was at all indicative of future events, this is one procession we seriously want to join.
