Status Update

Get off Facebook tomorrow! Turn off those tweets! On Wednesday December 1st, in recognition of World AIDS Day, major stars like Lady Gaga, Twitter-junkie Kim Kardashian, Ryan Seacrest, Jennifer Hudson, Elijah Wood, Alicia Keys, Serena Williams, David LaChapelle and Justin Timberlake (amongst a growing list) are signing off on Status Updates, Tumblr pics and Tweets as part of the Digital Life Sacrifice campaign that hopes to raise a million bucks to battle AIDS. The digital shut-down includes a promise from these celebs that they will not re-instate their social media presence unless a million dollars is raised for Key's charity "Keep a Child Alive" which funds medical care and support services for families and especially kids who are affected by AIDS and H.I.V. in Africa and India. The digital black-out or "Digital Death" as it has been dubbed also includes a campaign with a filmed last tweet and testament video and photographs of said famous folks lying in coffins (does no facebook really equal death? Scary!). Fans can donate money and bring digital Kim Kardashian back to life by donating to Buylife.org. So if you feel the need to say Happy Birthday to your best friend to your BFF tomorrow, don't write it on their Facebook wall, just pick up the phone like it's the good old luddite days and make a call.
