[Designer William Tempest's been making a splash in the UK fashion world since his first show at London Fashion Week in 2008 (Emma Watson is a big fan), and is making his New York Fashion Week debut this week. He'll be keeping a blog about his experience for PAPERMAG and, here, Tempest fills us on visiting Lincoln Center, spotting Kate Lanphear and having Vogue.com come for a visit.]
Thursday 9th September
My first day in New York and I wake up at 5 a.m. after going to sleep just only a few hours earlier. The journey over the evening before was manic. I was told before boarding my flight that the collection was held in U.S. customs, so I spent seven hours not knowing if there would even be a collection here when I landed. Luckily it was, and after having a successful preview to Vogue at 9 a.m., as well as seeing myself in the Wall Street Journal over breakfast, I headed over to the Lincoln Centre with my team (where we will be holding the show on Monday 13th) to plan how the space will be set up.
Outside there is a huge concrete block seamlessly hovering in the air, and we spotted Kate Lanphear from Elle looking effortlessly chic in a white blazer and killer heels. We headed inside. The space was amazing and we decided how the show would run, where models will enter and exit and got a feel for the backstage hair and makeup space. Very exciting to have seen the venue and now I can't wait for the show on Monday!
We headed back to our hotel and after a quick lunch begin our model casting. We saw a few girls we really love and tried them in different looks. They looked amazing, but there were still lots to find, so we arranged to cast all day tomorrow and Saturday to make sure we get the right girls for the job.
Out of nowhere, Vogue.com was at the hotel to preview the collection and took lots of pictures everywhere, which is fun. We asked Ismini (a model who I love) to come over to wear a dress in one of the shots. She looked stunning and has to be in the show!
After everyone left, I went over running order, and then wrote my blog which you are reading/ I am now going to head out for dinner.
Until tomorrow.
William
