Organic's John Patrick Has Had Enough of the Word "Green"

John Patrick is the designer of the celebrated line Organic. A pioneer in issues of ethics and sustainability, JP chatted with us at his presentation this morning.

Mr. Mickey: Are you tired of the talk about green and sustainable?

John Patrick: I never really embraced the word "green." It''s all about the ethics of sustainability and making things that are consciously good -- like the way that an architect works. I'm just standing still doing this meditation and the clothes are the result of the meditation.

MM: I feel that sustainability has gone beyond being a trend and has been accepted as necessity in the fashion industry. What do you think?

JP:  Totally. I think it's wonderful to go out and have a choice. So that it doesn't have to be something that you don't know.  I mean,do you want to eat tainted meat? You are what you eat and you are what you wear.
