Del Toro's Custom Chic
By Peter Davis
Del Toro shoes, designed by three South Florida preps and loved by blue bloods with a punk edge, can custom embroider anything on their slippers. "A local family here in Miami Beach has a black labradoodle called Elvis. They put the dog on everything from washtowels, to a private label of champagne named Delaplaine with Elvis on the label. This family has owned twenty various clubs ever since the beginning of South Beach," says Del Toro's Matthew Chevallard. "They got some red velvet shoes with Elvis in gold." Del Toro has also customized slippers, which now come in a very tropical-cool linen, for The George Lopez Show, Stephen Ross, the owner of the Miami Dolphins and are super popular for weddings. "Every wedding party puts a very unique twist on it. The Bar Harbor wedding got lobsters on the shoes for their lobster bash," Chevallard adds. "Another wedding got Jamaican humming birds on their wedding party on their family's plantation." Now I just need to decide if I want Sid Vicious falling down wasted or Amy Winehouse running crazy-eyed through the streets of London in a red bra. Decisions!
