Attention Los Angelenos: Cult label FREECITY will be relocating its Malibu store to Highland Avenue in Hollywood, and it will be called the FREECITY supershop supermat. The new 3,000 square-foot space, opening late this summer, will provide shoppers with hand-crafted creations from the nearby FREECITY workshop, including clothing, music, art, and books.
The brand is best known for its supremely soft T-shirts and sweats, printed from hand-made pigments with bold graphics and phrases like "Life Nature Love." Not to mention they're spotted on celebrities and scenesters everywhere. (The supershop is also a stone's throw from Mark "the Cobrasnake" Hunter's new Cobra Shop. We hope he's a polite neighbor.)
Nina Garduno, who founded the label in 2001 and told PAPER about the supermart in our February 2010 issue, wants the new store to have a local feel, and will concentrate her efforts on highlighting the neighborhood's artisans. In addition to these artist collaborations, the store will feature exclusive FREECITY items that can't be found anywhere else.
"We want everyone who visits the Hollywood neighborhood FREECITYsupershop supermat to walk away with an experience," says Garduno. "This place will be fantasy in a box."
