Word of Mouth
Looks like the elusive, globe-trotting Cobrasnake has finally found a place to roost, and what better place than the pulsing epicenter of cool/uncool he has faithfully and snarkily documented for so many years: Hollywood. Last night, friendly faces and fans came ambling out to celebrate The Cobra Shop's opening party, hosted by Jeremy Scott and doubling as the Los Angeles book signing for Todd Selby's new book, The Selby Is In Your Place. Street artist and sometimes DJ Shepard Fairey provided tunes alongside the unique stylings of fuzzy-mulleted singer Beardo as kids danced amid a décor that can only be described as your quirky grandparent's basement meets '90s skate park. Jeremy Scott, whose couture pieces hang alongside the Shop's ratty thrifted finds in oddly harmonious unison, fondly says this about our shutterbug: "Mark is the icon of L.A -- not only does he love the city and was raised here and supports it, he's also exposed the youth culture to the world via his website and he's influenced so much, world-wide. You go to other cities and there's a Mark Hunter of Seoul, Korea. He's really the one who has epitomized a lifestyle that he lives and believes in, and he's seeped into all aspects of the city from the yard sales to now, the store. I think L.A is really lucky to have him." Well said, Jeremy. The Cobra Shop, located on the fourth level of the Hollywood & Highland Mall, will officially open its snaky doors on June 16th .
