We know curious bees can cause poolside mayhem, but they are prettyimportant to the flora and fauna - and they're slowly, curiouslydisappearing. Not one to simply celebrate its pretty self, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is marking its 100th birthday this weekend with a Bee Day Party to spread awareness of this sad phenomenon. The free event will feature a musical performance by the "queen bee of soul," legendary Maxine Brown, as well as an advance screening of documentary Vanishing of the Bee. New York Times nature writer Verlyn Klinkenborg and a renowned beekeeper will speak about the perils of losing bees. Themed walking tours, kid friendly activities galore, regional honey, and bee-themed goodies complete the day. We already know what outfit Lady Gaga has picked out.
