JamesMaslowfinishedsm.jpgJames Maslow is the latest heartthrob to grace Nickelodeon with the hit series Big Time Rush. The show follows four young hockey players who leave their hometown in Minnesota to become a boy band in Hollywood. Think The Mighty Ducks meets Making the Band. James' character is a self-proclaimed pretty boy, with beautiful hair and a slight obsession with head bands. This couldn't be further from his true, rather humble self. The busy young actor took some time to answer a few questions for PAPERMAG.

Tell me about your character on Big Time Rush.
James Diamond is an incredibly motivated character, driven by fame and fortune. He's very into fashion and doing things his own way, but his true passion is singing. He has always wanted to be a pop star and now that he has been given that opportunity, he is loving life. It's fun to play Diamond, because he is very animated and over the top!

As a Nickelodeon star, is it stressful trying to live up to their squeaky clean image?
I suppose it would be a lie if I didn't say yes to some degree or another, as I am an adult who plays a kid -- but it's not a big concern of mine. I've always enjoyed being a role model to kids, I grew up doing theater around San Diego and now that there are a lot more people looking, I still feel about the same duty to be myself and to set a good example.

How does it feel to be considered a heartthrob with centerfolds in a bunch of teen mags?
I'm not sure that it has hit me yet. All of it is so new and since I spend most days working I haven't been out in public much, so the feeling is quite surreal when a fan comes up and says hi or asks for a picture. I hope that feeling never goes away though -- it's amazing to have people enjoy what I do!

What's your ideal date?

I'm pretty simple when it comes to dating -- all I need is food and entertainment. If the person is boring, a movie or concert is a great distraction, but hopefully they're not boring in which case dinner, a walk, and good conversation is ideal.
