PAPER
Word of Mouth

This morning, we stood next to a woman on the L who managed to use the phrase "cute panties" several, excruciating times while she was speaking to her friend about a possible date outfit. (E.g.,"If I wear that dress, I won't be able to wear those cute panties" and "They're the cutest panties.") As it is for many people, "panties" is one of our most despised words and makes us feel just as uncomfortable as hearing someone use "relax" as a verb. Well. We posted an innocent query to our facebook fans asking for their most hated words, and they weighed in with all of the "mouth-watering" gusto of someone going through "puberty" who loves "chunky" "sugar" "ointments." What? Relax! You'll see what we're talking about when you read some of our favorite responses after the jump.

Trevor R. Martin: "'Moisturizer'"

Mickey Boardman: "I love-hate the word 'turd'. It's so vivid. Also not fond of 'edgy,''directional' and 'visceral.' But I think that's because I secretly feellike I don't know what they mean. Please don't tell me what they meanbecause I KNOW what they mean I just have a viscerally negativereaction!"

Jeffrey Felner: "'LIFESTYLE GURU'"

Michael Mckinney: "'Discharge!'"

Ana Pavoni: "'Moist.' Enough said. Also, 'Nooner.'"

Julia Luke: "'It's all about you' and 'GO GREEN!'"

Jack Suggs:"... 'Mouth-watering'"

Eric Oliver:"'Ointment'"

Betsy De Lotbiniere
: "'Patronising.' Because it's so often mis-used. Also 'decadent.' I do like the word 'panties.' Hate 'slacks.'"

Dana Thomas:"'Puberty'"

Jessica Steller:"'Tender'"

Antonio Rodrigues

Hayley Montuori
:"'Chunky'"
