The wonderful people at
Giant Step Productions are bringing the seventh installment of their
Svedka Vodka Sessions concert series to the
Hudson Hotel tomorrow night, and it sounds like a real triple threat. First up, hailing from Philadelphia is the spunky
Amanda Blank who spits rhymes like wildfire and has performed alongside artists like
Spank Rock,
Santigold, and most recent,
Peaches. The foul-mouthed femme's debut album from last summer
I Love You is 33-and-a-half minutes of electro-hip-hop bliss, and includes hits such as "Might Like You Better," "Make It Take It," and my personal favorite "Gimme What You Got (feat. Spank Rock)" (in essence, a ditty explaining why Blank is, indeed, "the hottest motherfucker on the whole damn block"). Performer numero dos is singer-songwriter
Daniel Merriweather, an Australia-born
Mark Ronson protégé with a pair of chops that'll make you say "g'day." The R&B master plans to perform his songs stripped (no, not that way) with a special acoustic set. Rounding out the evening, we have the effervescent
Ebony Bones,
PAPERMAG's favorite Brit girl and one of SXSW's best new acts of 2009. With additional sets by
DJ Moni and drank by Svedka, this looks like one hell of a Wednesday night. And if you
RSVP now (and you MUST RSVP), it's free free free!
The Hudson Hotel, 353 W 57th St., 8 p.m. Free with RSVP.
