Word of Mouth
3322_by_woods.jpg Though we wish it weren't so, Williamsburg's treasured MonkeyTown will be closing its doors January 24th. To bid their farewells to the the arty performance space, Brooklyn rustic psych quartet Woods are playing there tonight as their jam band incarnation Woods Family Creeps. Below, Woods noise mixer G. Lucas Crane (pictured above, far right) discusses an otherworldly jam session in Santa Fe, how the band will deal with the loss of MonkeyTown, and the Woods Family Creeps's mysterious 2010 performance schedule.

Describe the Woods Family Creeps' sound in three creepy words.
Zone. Freaking. Grippers.

What's the longest amount of time the Woods Family Creeps have ever jammed for?
Onetime we stopped in Santa Fe and it was raining in the desert. There hadbeen some music festival the day before and the entire town was hungover. No opening band. Sleepy rained out desert bar show. One look at theroom and we were like 'we're not gonna stop tonight.' The entrance tothe backstage was a foot too low, and we were all screwed up fromhitting our heads on it. We clocked an hour and a half, but it's hazy.Sometimes one of us would just stop to watch the other three. The soundguy had weed in his dreadlocks; we signed an autograph for an unbornchild and a mounted horse showed up at the end. It was an alternateuniverse.

Who are your favorite jam bands?

Quicksilver Messenger Service, Fleetwood Mac, and the Dead

How will you cope when MonkeyTown closes?
Isuppose we'll have to watch several TVs at once while I blend Recipesin my kitchen. No seriously, there's no other place like it, and itsparticular set up and eccentricities will be missed.

Can we expect more Woods Family Creeps shows in 2010?
It's a mystery. Really. No one may know. Not even us.

The Woods Family Creeps play shows at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. tonight at MonkeyTown, 58 N 3rd St., (718) 384-1369. $10 + $10 minimum. Woods depart for a two-week tour with Real Estate in March.
