Opening this weekend is Up In The Air, a fuzzy comedy/drama from director Jason Reitman (Juno) starring George Clooney as Ryan Bingham -- a corporate downsizer -- who spends most of his life in transit (and likes it that way), crisscrossing the country to different businesses to fire people. "We take people at their most fragile and we set them adrift," he admits. He even gives a self-help workshop about "life in a knapsack" that encourages life with minimal entanglements. But a casual romantic encounter with a pretty traveler (Vera Farmiga), a family wedding, and his new co-worker, a young hotshot efficiency expert (Anna Kendrick), all threaten his nomadic lifestyle. The movie wants to have its cake and eat it too -- as snappy, slightly cynical, comedy; a sobering look at unemployment and its consequences; and a romantic reawakening for this loveless frequent flier. Fortunately Clooney is a pro and gives Ryan added depth, dimension and pathos. And Anna Kendrick is just a delight Cinemaniac
