Miuccia Prada is in Manhattan today designing costumes for the Metropolitan Opera's upcoming spring production of Giuseppe Verdi's Attila. Prada met the women who had been cast months ago as supernumeraries (a non-singing actor or extra). My spy at the Met told me that Prada took one glance at the women and groaned: "I cannot clothe them! I need models!" So now the Metropolitan Opera is conducting model castings to please La Prada. "Employing models is ridiculous," says my source. "Being a supernumerary is about how you move, not how you look."

What a ridiculous woman...Who the hell allowed her to have the job to judge the bodies of normal actors? and if she prefers the lines or lack of shape of coat-hangar models with freakish proportions then she is clearly not a very talented designer.
how sad. I hope normal people and actors all over the world recall this every time they shop.

How unfortunate that they chose to fire the actors rather than the incompetent costumer, however famous the name.
The costumer costumes the actors. If you cannot costume them, you are a failure at your job.
Go back to the runways and the fantasy world of concept design. You don't belong in the theater or the opera house except for in the audience.

So why is the Met hiring designer who can only deal with models. Clearly this woman is only a fashion designer - not a costume designer. If she does get her inexperienced models up there, I wish them luck - it is a tricky and somewhat dangerous set. Hopefully she won't put them in the 6" sandals that had her models actually falling at the Spring show in Milan on a flat runway.
